“Across a room, tangled up in her imagination, they had spent a lifetime together by the time he said hello” – atticus // Chevy and Jason’s Vintage Chicago Wedding has a special place in my heart.
If ever there was a couple that deserved their dream wedding day to be beyond perfect, it was these two. The measure of “in sickness and in health” was put to the test far earlier than any couple should have to endure. At the young age of 33, Chevy was diagnosed with breast cancer. Two days after her diagnosis the couple had tickets to see the Cactus Blossoms’s at Fitzgerald’s Bar in Berwyn, IL. In the middle of the concert they announce that they’d like to dedicate the next song to Chevy. Jason led Chevy to the dance floor and they were the only ones dancing in a sea of people. A moment later, he dropped to one knee and asked her to marry him! In Chevy’s own words “I was floored. I felt all the happy emotions I could ever feel & forgot about the diagnosis in that moment. Of course, I said YES!” Chevy has undergone a double mastectomy as well as four rounds of chemo and Jason has been at her side for the entire nightmare. Chevy originally found me for her engagement session through the Magic Hour, an organization that gifts photo shoots to cancer survivors. I had so much fun getting to know Chevy and Jason during their Tiki Bar Engagement (see it here) that I was honored to photograph their wedding as well!
The couple decided to have their wedding ceremony and reception at Fitzgeralds, where they got engaged 🙂 The bride was stunning in her one-of-a-kind handmade burgundy lace dress from etsy, vintage heels and ornate gold crown (YAS queen!). The groom was stunning in his navy three piece suit. There was not a dry eye in the place as the couple exchanged personal vows to each other in front of friends and family.
