“The beat was goin strong, playin’ my favorite song. An’ I could tell it wouldn’t be long til he was with me, yeah me. Singin’ I love rock and roll” – Joan Jett // This quote seems perfect for this rock and roll Chicago elopement in Logan Square.
When you think of a wedding you usually imagine a bride in a long white dress walking down the aisle with her father towards her groom in a black tuxedo and the classic wedding reception to end the night. As beautiful as the classic wedding is, I love me some unique brides and grooms. To date, this rock and roll Chicago elopement is one of my favorite shoots of all time….so far. The bride’s heels adorned with spikes and the way her colorful bouquet accented her beautiful tattoo’s was the perfect style to match her groom’s suspenders, matching colorful boutonniere and his arm sleeve’s. The couple had perviously had a Chicago City Hall wedding and contacted me to meet them after for some wedding photo’s to document their special day. When we spoke the bride defined her wedding as a rock and roll Chicago elopement and I immediately knew that it was going to be amazing. We headed to Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood where we used the colorful murals and graffiti as the perfect backdrop. Next stop, under the “L” tracks of course. I love how the couple was down with anything I had in mind, so when I said I wanted to highlight the grittier parts of Chicago – alleys, under the el, graffiti – they both were totally on board! We ended the rock and roll Chicago elopement shoot on the “L” tracks and I used a slow shutter to create the movement in the train as it went by. I adore that so much of “Chicago” was represented in this shoot: the mural from the iconic Ferris Bueller movie, the alleys and, of course, the L train.
