We have all heard it – practice what you preach. When I first started to branch out into Chicago branding photography I knew I had to have my own personal branding photo shoot and see what it’s like being on the other side of the camera. You guys…I learned SO MUCH and I’m going to spill all the tea here!
- Everyone is awkward for the first 10 minutes. OK, I was under the assumption that because I photograph others I would be totally comfortable and know exactly what to do in front of the camera. Yeah….nope, not even a little. I got there and was super nervous and didn’t know what to do with my hands and felt SO AWKWARD….for the first 10 minutes. Then I realized that the photographer that I hired is a PRO and she posed me, made me laugh and I, eventually, even had fun!
- Planning is HUGE! Once I had my own branding photo shoot scheduled I got down to business planning it and this saved us so much time and energy! I created a Pinterest board with poses and shots that I wanted. Then I went through my closet to decide on outfits. Next, I thought about all the props I wanted to bring to my branding shoot. Finally, I booked a hair and makeup appointment so I knew I would feel my best. Your branding photographer should walk you through these steps so that your branding shoot goes smoothly.
- Trust the professional! I hired my talented fellow photographer and friend, Sarah from Inspired Eye Photography, for my branding photo session and she was amazing. Sarah posed me effortlessly and had so many good ideas that I would never have thought of. Trust the professional and you won’t go wrong!
- Don’t be afraid to BE YOURSELF! Everyone wants to look professional and polished, but there is something about being yourself that is just MAGIC! I definitely loosened up by the end of our shoot and the last photos where I am really gettin silly and laughing are my absolute FAVORITE! Don’t be afraid to show your fun personality, your clients will love you for it!
