“I don’t want a prince on a white horse, I want a weirdo who makes me laugh” // It takes an amazing couple to want to have a House on the Rock Wedding and Allison and Greg are just that couple.
Allison contacted me a year ago inquiring if I was available on April 7th for her House on the Rock wedding in Spring Green, Wisconsin. She had gotten my name from the coordinator at House on the Rock because I photographed a wedding there in October of 2017. I never in my wildest dreams expected to ever photograph another House on the Rock wedding and I think Allison got wind of my excitement and it was on like Donkey Kong! This place, oh my this wonderful, quirky, magical, unbelievable place! If you have never been to House on the Rock, google that shiz now (although no website does it justice to be honest). Allison and Greg are from Los Angeles and after visiting House on the Rock during their many travels they had their hearts set on a very unique destination wedding! The House on the Rock (now a tourist attraction) is the brain child of Alex Jordan Jr. It is a complex structure of architecturally distinct rooms, streets, gardens, and shops. The House on the Rock wedding ceremony took place in the “Heritage of the Sea” room that features a 200 foot model of a whale battling a giant squid. The ceremony started with Allisons little cousin walking in with a speaker playing the Jaws theme song, how great is that? After the ceremony I took the couple through the rest of the house highlighting “The Streets of Yesterday”, a re-creation of an early twentieth century American town, “The Music of Yesterday”, a huge collection of automatic music machines; and what the management bills as “the world’s largest indoor carousel”. The carousel at the House on the Rock features 269 carousel animals, 182 chandeliers, over 20,000 lights, and hundreds of mannequin angels hanging from the ceiling….and the carousel has no horses.
I had such an amazing time with this absolutely amazing couple! Allison and Greg, thank you SO MUCH for letting me be a part of your kick a$$ wedding! Cheers, Lisa
