“She made broken look beautiful and strong look invincible. She walked with the universe on her shoulders and made it look like a pair of wings.” – Ariana // This quote seems just so perfect for Chevy and Jason’s retro Chicago tiki bar engagement.
This Chicago tiki bar engagement session is near and dear to my heart. At the start of 2018 I made a goal to use my photography to give back or “pay it forward” via charities and other outlets. I found an amazing non-profit organization called Magic Hour that connects photographers with families or individuals who are fighting and/or in remission from cancer and gifts a photo shoot free of charge. I signed up and was so excited when I heard that I had my first client and she was interested in an engagement session!
Chevy spent almost all of 2017 consumed by the diagnosis, treatment and recovery from breast cancer. In fact, two days after her biopsy Jason proposed to her at a concert of their favorite band, Cactus Blossoms (who she highly recommends!) I was so excited to help Chevy and Jason capture their engagement photo’s after all they have been through in the past year. When I was discussing a location with the couple, Jason mentioned Hala Kahiki, one of their favorite tiki bars in Chicago. If you have not been here, you need to go ASAP, it’s one of my fave’s as well! The owner was awesome letting us come before they opened and gave us free reign of the place! I could not be happier for Chevy and Jason as they continue to plan their October 2018 wedding, which will be held in the same venue where they got engaged, Fitzgeralds in Berwyn, Illinois! I’m so honored to be a photographer for Magic Hour – thank you so much! xo – Lisa
